Mute: switch reminders off for a while — and know what you missed

A child is ill, a siren goes off, the day does not follow the timetable — and lesson reminders only get in the way. Mute works like muting a chat in Telegram, only for reminders: for as long as you need, the timetable or everything, and at the end one short report of what did not arrive.

How to switch it on

For how long

Buttons: 1 hour, 2, 12, until tomorrow (midnight where you are) and 2 days. In words, any length up to a week: a mute nobody remembers setting is a month of silent reminders.

Timetable only, or everything

A toggle above the buttons. “Timetable only” is the default: an illness or an alert cancels lessons, while medicine should keep arriving. “All reminders” silences everything, medicine included — and the app says so.

What happens to the reminders

A muted reminder does not arrive at all — not now, not later: a lesson that fell during an alert is no use to anyone afterwards. That is the difference from “Quiet night” in the settings: night-time reminders are postponed and arrive as soon as the night is over; muted ones are skipped.

A mute applies everywhere at once — the app, the website and Telegram. Reminders that fire on the phone itself (by place, Bluetooth, NFC) are held back by the phone too.

When the mute ends — by itself or with “Unmute” — a short report arrives: the timetable's lessons in one line, every other held-back reminder listed separately, because those are the ones that may have mattered.

Automatic mute in the app

The phone can tell when you are travelling, on the move, or when it has been lying untouched for a while — and hold reminders back meanwhile. In the app: Settings → “Notifications & sound” → “Automatic mute”. There are three separate switches:

All three are off until you switch them on, and they need the “Physical activity” permission — without it the phone cannot tell it is moving. From then on it works like an ordinary mute: reminders are held back, and when the drive or the walk is over the phone shows a report, if anything was missed. At night, “Quiet night” in the same settings takes care of it.

This mute is switched on and off by the phone itself, so it covers reminders that come to the app. If your reminders also come to Telegram, it does not hold those messages back.

When a mute is not what you need

The holidays or a week off sick call for pausing the timetable, not a mute: “pause the timetable”, then “resume the timetable”. A single reminder: pause it from its menu. And adding a timetable in the first place is step by step here.

FAQ

How is a mute different from pausing the timetable?
A pause is for days with no timetable at all — the holidays, a week off sick — and lasts until you lift it. A mute is for hours or a few days, ends by itself, and finishes with a report.
If I switch the automatic mute off by hand, will it come back?
Not for the rest of that drive, walk or spell on the desk. Next time it switches on as usual.
Do the missed reminders vanish without a trace?
No. The report at the end lists them: the timetable in one line, everything else by name.
Can I silence one particular reminder?
That is what pause is for: “Pause” in the reminder's menu, or in words — “pause the water reminder”.
